0201Hi, my name is Jeffrey Obelcz, I am a senior studying marine science at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This summer I am working with Dr. Shank in the Nueces Marsh area near Corpus Christi. Our project involves collecting water and sediment samples and testing them for fluoresence, spectrophotometric emissions, dissolved inorganic carbon, total nitrogen, and output of CDOM (colored dissolved organic matter) under exposure to sunlight. Analysis of iron concentration in the water column is another project priority. We hope to append this data to long-term area observations done by Dr. Dunton in order to take steps toward understanding the role shallow, heavily mixed marshes play in colored dissolved organic matter distribution, production, and dissolution.
